Minęła pierwsza doba ósmej już edycji regat samotników dookoła globu z zachodu na wschód. W rejsie wystartowało 29 skiperów i można śmiało stwierdzić że jest to absolutna czołówka światowego żeglarstwa. Te niezwykle prestiżowe regaty odbywają się cyklicznie co cztery lata i są nie lada wyzwaniem dla startujących i ich ekip. Sam fakt ich ukończenia jest traktowany jako wielkie osiągnięcie żeglarskie. W poprzedniej edycji w której startował jak do tej pory jedyny nasz rodak Zbigniew Gutkowski (niestety musiał się wycofać z powodu awarii samosteru) na 20 startujących aż 9 wycofało się w trakcie regat.
